Dogs Deserve Better Piedmont began in 2019 with a simple belief: every dog deserves freedom. After witnessing the heartbreaking number of dogs living on chains in underserved communities, a small group of compassionate volunteers came together to make a difference.
What started as a mission to untether dogs quickly grew into something more. We discovered that lasting change meant more than removing chains. Families often needed support, education, and resources to provide better lives for their pets. Today, our work includes building safe kennels, providing dog houses and food, facilitating spay and neuter surgeries, helping with urgent veterinary care, and partnering with families to create lasting improvements for their dogs.
In 2024, we became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, allowing us to focus entirely on serving dogs in Wake, Granville, and surrounding counties. With our own Board of Directors and EIN (99-3535120), we expanded opportunities for employer matching gifts, vehicle and stock donations, and planned giving—strengthening our ability to help even more dogs in the years ahead.
What hasn't changed is the reason we began: a commitment to replacing lives of isolation with safety, care, and hope—because every dog deserves freedom.
